Primorac’s Coaching Position Remains Vacant
The exit of Ranko Perović from Primorje’s coaching staff was anticipated at the conclusion of last season, but it has only just been made official. His contract, which covered his tenure as a successful coach and former head of the Montenegrin national team, expired in May, right after the domestic championship wrapped up.
In the meantime, were the Kotor team prepping for a future without Perović?
Currently, Primorac does not have a confirmed head of the professional staff, yet a plan is in place—albeit with a challenging path to execution.
The club’s aspiration is for the iconic water polo figure, Petar Porobić, to take the helm, a desire that has been brewing for months. Rumors within the water polo community suggest that both parties have been tirelessly working toward establishing a collaboration.
However, progress has been slow due to Porobić being under contract with the Water Polo Federation of China.
His obligations with the Chinese team include the upcoming Asian Games, scheduled from September 24 to October 8.
If he does accept the position in Kotor, he may not take over until mid-October, coinciding with the start of Primorje’s serious campaign in the regional A1 league, which begins in earnest in late September.
While Porobić’s future remains uncertain, a seasoned name in water polo, Zoran Maslovar, will lead Primorac in the interim.
Maslovar is likely to be on the bench next season; the only question is whether he will serve as head coach or as part of Porobić’s coaching staff. He has a history of working with Porobić throughout his career…
Interestingly, Porobić began his journey with Primorac as both a player and a coach, but faced considerable challenges there early in his career.
In March 2011, while coaching the Montenegrin national team, local fans called for his dismissal, marking a significant moment in his coaching journey. It will be intriguing to see the dynamics between Porobić and Kotor more than 12 years later…
Primorac is actively assembling a roster aimed at securing a return to the regional Premier League.
The team welcomes back experienced players Draško Brguljan, Nemanja Vico, and Nikola Marković, alongside new recruit Petar Ćetković from Budva.
More reinforcements are expected for Primorac, including a center and a guard.
Alongside Vico, Australian Angus Lemby, who recently competed in the World Championship in Fukuoka, is anticipated to become a key player, while a defender is rumored to be joining from the Netherlands.
