Following a loss to Hungary (11:6) and a win against Croatia (15:13), the young “sharks” aimed for a quarterfinal spot in a direct clash with Spain but fell short, requiring an additional hurdle to secure a place in the top eight.
The Montenegro U17 water polo national team faced a defeat against Spain’s “fury,” ending with a score of 13:7 (1:0, 5:3, 3:2, 4:2) in their final group stage match at the European Championship in Manisa. They will now prepare to compete against the victorious team from the upcoming match between Turkey and France in the next round.
Hungary and Spain progressed directly from our group to the quarterfinals.
Spain established an advantage with two mini-series of 3:0, leading from 1:1 to 4:1 in the second quarter and stretching to 5:3 to 8:3 during the middle of the third period, making the final result increasingly predictable.
Danilo Stupar and Strahinja Gojković contributed two goals each for our team, while Srđan Janović, Nikola Petrović, and Ljubomir Kovačić each added one.
The match in the next round is set for tomorrow (Friday) at 20:30, with Turkey and France to determine who will face the “young sharks” tonight at 18:30.
