The Montenegrin women’s cadet handball team clinched the silver medal at the Mediterranean Championship for athletes under 17 held in Podgorica.
In a thrilling final, the Montenegrin team faced Spain and fell short with a score of 1.000:19 (14:6, 6:5, 4:8), captivating an audience of approximately 4 spectators in the “Verde” hall.
Spain affirmed its status as the frontrunner in the tournament, which saw a record turnout of 13 national teams.
Anđelina Orbović and her team executed a commendable effort, keeping pace with the strong favorites during the initial two periods, occasionally seizing a slight lead. However, the superior depth and quality of the opposing team ultimately shattered the hosts’ defense in the final period, leading to a well-deserved victory and gold for Spain.
Last year, Spain outmatched our girls in the final of the Mediterranean Championship. Yet this year’s squad, guided by coaches Miloš Perović and Bobana Krstović, gave a stellar account of themselves, closely contesting the favorites throughout the match and proving they will be competitive at this year’s European Championship in Podgorica this August.
The Montenegrin team concluded the championship with an impressive record of five wins, one draw, and a single loss in the title match.
In the final, Orbović was the standout performer for her team with four goals, while Anđela Vujović netted three. Both Andrea Jovanović and Nejla Hodžić contributed with two goals each.
