The Ruling Majority’s Missteps: Surviving Through Political Bargains

The recent parliamentary session vividly highlighted that the ruling majority is on the brink of disintegration, with yet another bargain needed for political survival. The Civic Movement URA remarked that this reinforces their position that the primary goal is to maintain their own power, even at the expense of Montenegro.
“They appear willing to disregard the Constitution and laws, facilitate money laundering, prioritize investors’ interests over those of the citizens, and neglect environmental protections and state interests,” the political party stated in a release.
The GP URA noted that the parliamentary majority faced a significant setback—struggling to gather 41 votes in two crucial votes, one for ratifying the Agreement with the UAE and the other for the dismissal of Parliament Speaker Andrija Mandić, despite initially having a two-thirds majority at the government’s inception.
“It is particularly disappointing that those parties claiming to represent civic values have once again shown themselves to be mere political pawns of Andrija Mandić, whose position they have diligently safeguarded.”
“Nevertheless, this dynamic, relating to coalition collaborations and state interests, has once again provided citizens with a clear view of the character of this government, its tenure, and the urgent need to replace such a majority at the earliest opportunity,” the statement concluded.
