Barcelona Football Club is set to return to the Camp Nou stadium on August 10, following two years of renovations, as announced by club president Joan Laporta during a televised interview.
During the renovation period, the Catalan team played its home matches at the Olympic Stadium in Barcelona and managed to clinch the Spanish La Liga title. The renovated Camp Nou is expected to have a seating capacity of 105,000, positioning it as the largest football stadium in Europe.
Initially, the plan was for Barcelona to return to the partially finished stadium by November 2024. However, in February, the club expressed optimism about playing the first matches by the end of this season, in front of approximately 60,000 fans.
The February update also revealed that the project aims to be fully completed by the end of the 2025/26 season, with the roof scheduled to be installed at that time.
The Camp Nou is among the potential venues to host the finals of the 2030 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Spain, Portugal, and Morocco. Nonetheless, the renovated Santiago Bernabeu stadium in Madrid and a future 115,000-seat stadium planned for Casablanca, Morocco, are viewed as more likely candidates for the final.
