President Jakov Milatović emphasized that Montenegro must take advantage of the chance to meet all requirements and aim to become the first new member of the European Union (EU) by 2028. He highlighted the importance of expediting the closing of negotiation chapters.
During a discussion with Thomas Weiz, the Chairman of the EU-Montenegro Stabilization and Association Parliamentary Committee (SAC), Milatović addressed the current dynamics in the negotiations.
Milatović mentioned on the X platform that he stressed during the meeting that Montenegro, being the most advanced candidate for membership, should fully commit to meeting all requirements to join the EU by 2028.
“Thus, it is vital to accelerate the process of closing negotiation chapters, which requires ongoing reforms and a sustained focus on the European agenda from all political actors in our nation,” stated Milatović.
