Incidents involving foreign nationals from neighboring countries present a significant risk to the reputation of Herceg Novi as a tourist and cultural hub, stated the Novska Lista party.
They expressed regret that, unfortunately, close to the anniversary of a tragic event, a new incident occurred that endangered the life of a resident of Novalja who heroically intervened to prevent a robbery in his town.
“It was only through luck, or perhaps divine intervention on a significant Christian holiday, that Miloš Laban survived and can share his story of bravery,” the statement noted.
The Nova List praised the prompt response from law enforcement, who apprehended what they referred to as this dangerous individual.
“Nonetheless, we call for stricter entry controls into our country and for security evaluations to be conducted with utmost seriousness. It is our duty as public officials to advocate for the safety of our borders and the well-being of all residents and visitors to Herceg Novi,” the statement emphasized.
They pointed out that incidents involving illegal immigrants, transit travelers on the Adriatic Highway, or physical confrontations on ferries should serve as critical warning signs for Herceg Novi’s security forces.
“The bravery exhibited by the people of Herceg Novi unites all these incidents. Regrettably, the outcome of these events has not always been positive. ‘There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends,’ as stated in the Gospel. Let us safeguard lives, protect our community, and uphold our town’s integrity. Our gratitude goes to Miloš and all those who acted selflessly for Herceg Novi. May their courageous acts inspire us,” concluded the statement.
