Montenegro boasts over seven thousand kilometers of modern roadways, with a strong commitment to enhancing transport infrastructure through substantial investments, stated Minister of Public Works Majda Adžović.

As highlighted by the Ministry, Adžović spoke at a panel titled “Cities and Corridors: How Global Transport Networks Shape Urban Futures” during the Global Transport Connectivity Forum taking place in Istanbul from Friday to Sunday.

“In her remarks on transport connectivity, Adžović noted that Montenegro currently features more than seven thousand kilometers of modern roads and is dedicated to advancing transport infrastructure through considerable investments,” the statement elaborated.

She mentioned that Montenegro, due to its geographical location, has always served as a crossroads, a hub for cultures, and an area of interest for major global powers.

This crucial geopolitical position, according to Adžović, has not always aligned with the economic and infrastructural advancements within the country.

She asserted that Montenegro now has the opportunity to leverage its position for enhanced internal and regional development.

One of Montenegro’s key objectives, as emphasized by Adžović, is strengthening transport connectivity by developing cross-border corridors.

The statement underlined the significance of the Western Balkans–Eastern Mediterranean corridor.

“In this regard, she mentioned the necessity of a high-speed coastal highway that will link cities, alleviate congestion, stimulate economic growth, and also establish connections with neighboring countries,” the statement added.

Adžović highlighted that infrastructure projects are not merely for statistical purposes but aim to grant citizens access to knowledge, markets, and opportunities.

“Through the Western Balkans Growth Plan, Montenegro has secured a significant share of funds from the European Union (EU) aimed at enhancing transport connectivity and developing smart, sustainable corridors,” the statement said.

She conveyed that the Montenegrin Government aims to further advance the transport network, not just for territorial connectivity, but also to promote balanced development, attract investments, retain youth, and expedite European integration.

“Every road, railway, or port in Montenegro symbolizes a pathway to a stronger, safer, and more sustainable future,” stressed Adžović.

She affirmed that Montenegro prioritizes connectivity within its EU accession process—central to its foreign policy—fostering ties within the country, the region, and the wider continent, as this is foundational for both infrastructural and overall socio-economic progress, guaranteeing a better quality of life for all its citizens.
