I hoped this moment would never arrive…

During his illustrious 13 years with Real Madrid, he has achieved remarkable success, establishing himself as one of the top footballers globally. He even claimed the Ballon d’Or, breaking the long dominance of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo…

This success came at a cost to Luka Modric, who, following a lackluster season, made the announcement that he would be leaving the “Blancos”.

Luka Modrić will not renew his contract with Real Madrid, which concludes at the end of the season, and he will officially bid farewell during the summer at the Club World Cup.

“Dear Real Madrid fans, the moment I dreaded has arrived. However, that’s football, and everything has a beginning and an end…” wrote Modrić, who has celebrated 28 trophies with the “royal club” on both domestic and international stages.

“On Saturday, I will play my final game at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium. I came in 2012, excited to wear the jersey of the best club in the world, with ambitions to achieve greatness, but I could never have imagined what was to follow,” the legendary Croatian reflected.

Modrić has secured six Champions League titles with Real Madrid, along with four La Liga championships…

“Playing for Real Madrid transformed my life, both as a footballer and as a person. I take pride in having been part of one of the most successful eras of the greatest club in history. I’ve experienced incredible moments—unbelievable turns, finals, celebrations, and magical nights at the Bernabeu… We won it all, and I was filled with joy. However, beyond the titles and victories, I carry the love of all Real Madrid fans in my heart. Honestly, I can’t articulate the special bond I feel with you and how much I have been supported, respected, and loved,” said Modrić.

Before joining Real Madrid, he represented Dinamo Zagreb and Tottenham.

“I will always cherish every applause and each gesture of kindness you have shown me. I leave with pride, gratitude, and unforgettable memories. Even though I will no longer wear this jersey on the pitch after the Club World Cup, I will always be a Madridista,” Modrić concluded, the most decorated footballer in the history of the world’s biggest club.

All of Luka’s trophies with Real Madrid:

La Liga: 2016/17, 2019/20, 2021/22, 2023/24;

Champions League: 2013/14, 2015/16, 2016/17, 2017/18, 2021/22, 2023/24;

Copa del Rey: 2013/14, 2022/23;
