The state is steadfast in its commitment to avoid a return to parallel power structures.
Deputy Prime Minister Aleksa Bečić praised the Special State Prosecutor’s Office and the Special Police Unit for their joint efforts, noting that today’s arrest of the Head of the Police Security Department in Danilovgrad signals Montenegro’s commitment to never again fall under the influence of parallel power structures.
For years, certain individuals masked criminal activities behind official uniforms, assigned badges based on political allegiance, and manipulated institutions from the shadows. These same factions are now in turmoil, Bečić remarked.
He pointed out that allegations of politically motivated arrests, or claims that vetting and integrity checks are forms of political persecution, only serve to illustrate how deeply these networks were entrenched and unlawfully shielded.
It’s not that they don’t grasp the concept of vetting—they resist it because it reveals their connections. It uncovers who appointed whom, who received promotions and protection, as well as their actions. It lays bare their footprints, the origins of their influence, and the sources of their finances. It exposes the abuse, he added.
Those with nothing to hide should feel safe. Those who are honest should embrace this process. And those who thought they would always be protected must now realize—this state has awakened, and no one is beyond its reach, Bečić concluded.
