Albanian National Detained at Božaj Border Crossing for Document Forgery; Vehicle Confiscated
An Albanian national, GT (31), was apprehended at the Božaj border crossing after officials detected irregularities that raised reasonable suspicions regarding the manipulation of the vehicle’s chassis number, according to a statement from the Police Directorate (UP).
“As part of ongoing efforts to enhance border security, Border Police Sector officers confiscated a vehicle from an Albanian citizen at the border crossing based on suspicions of a tampered chassis number and subsequently detained him.
During border checks at the Božaj crossing, border police inspected GT (31), who was driving a BMW X5.
“Working alongside Frontex officers, a thorough inspection of the vehicle was conducted at the second checkpoint, where irregularities indicating potential chassis number manipulation were discovered,” the statement detailed. The police noted that the vehicle has been temporarily seized for further investigation.
The on-duty prosecutor at the Basic State Prosecutor’s Office in Podgorica was notified of the situation, and following his directive, GT was detained on suspicion of committing the criminal offense of document forgery, as per the police statement.
The Border Police Department emphasized that officers are actively engaged in heightened efforts to combat all forms of cross-border crime, aiming to ensure the safety and protect the interests of Montenegro’s citizens.
