The Supreme Public Prosecutor’s Office of Serbia has announced the transfer of a corruption case related to work at the Novi Sad Railway Station, where one individual lost their life on November 15 of the previous year, to the Public Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime.

Supreme Public Prosecutor Zagorka Dolovac stated that the documents regarding this case, currently held by the Special Department for the Suppression of Corruption at the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Novi Sad, will now be forwarded to the Public Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime.

It was also decided that the acting prosecutor from Novi Sad would be temporarily reassigned to handle further proceedings in this case at the Public Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime.

This decision was made, as noted in the statement, because the established facts indicate reasonable suspicion of criminal acts that fall within the jurisdiction of the state bodies responsible for organized crime and terrorism.

“We want to emphasize that the investigation into the liability for the loss of life of one individual in the Novi Sad Railway Station canopy collapse, led by the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Novi Sad, continues independently and with utmost priority. We expect the indictment against 13 individuals to come into force soon,” the statement reads.

Supreme Public Prosecutor Zagorka Dolovac has also invited representatives of the student protests to meet and discuss the fulfillment of their demands that fall within the jurisdiction of the public prosecutor’s office.
