The Struggle for Europe in Kotor

Securing a spot in the Champions League through a challenging qualifying group wasn’t feasible, so Kotorani will aim for entry into the Eurocup starting tomorrow (Thursday) in their pool.

The Primorje water polo team will kick off their qualification for the lesser LEN competition tomorrow at 18:00 against Panathinaikos. They will then compete until Sunday for one of the top two spots that lead to the Eurocup, facing off against Hannover, the Spanish team Terasa, and another Greek club, Peristeri.

“The group is tough with well-seasoned teams, but I believe we have a shot at contending against everyone and securing a top two position, which would give us a place in the Eurocup group stage—an admirable outcome for our team,” remarked Vido Lompar, assistant to head coach Zoran Maslovar.

Home advantage could be pivotal in the quest for the Eurocup.

“Being the hosts is advantageous for us. I’m optimistic that with the support of the Kotor audience and fans, we will perform well in the tournament,” Lompar added during an interview with Radio Kotor.

Regarding their rivals in Kotor, Lompar stated…

“Hannover features four experienced Croatian internationals along with some German players. The two Greek teams have made adjustments to their lineups, but they remain formidable opponents. Terasa is a youthful, dynamic team, embodying classic Spanish water polo with plenty of swimming,” Lompar explained.
