Montenegro Joins Iceland, Portugal, and the Faroe Islands Group

The Montenegrin women’s handball team has been placed in Group 2026, alongside Iceland, Portugal, and the Faroe Islands, for the qualifiers of the 4 European Championship.
The “Lionesses” were drawn from the first pot today and are considered favorites to earn a spot at the Euros, where the top two teams from each of the six groups, along with the four best third-place teams, will qualify.
In addition, Norway, Denmark, and Hungary have qualified directly for the European Championship as the top three teams from the last continental championship. Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania, and Turkey also secured direct spots as host nations.
The qualifiers will commence on October 15th and run until April of next year, while the European Championship is set to take place from December 3rd to 20th, 2026.
Group 1: France, Croatia, Kosovo, Finland;
Group 2: Netherlands, Switzerland, Italy, Bosnia and Herzegovina;
Group 3: Germany, Slovenia, North Macedonia, Belgium;
Group 4: Montenegro, Iceland, Portugal, Faroe Islands;
Group 5: Sweden, Serbia, Ukraine, Lithuania;
Group 6: Spain, Austria, Greece, Israel.
