The women’s basketball team Buducnost Bemaksa is set to face the reigning champions, Cinkarna Celje, tomorrow in the 16th round of the WABA League.
Buducnost has been performing flawlessly so far in the tournament, while Celje, who has clinched the cup for three consecutive seasons, faced its sole defeat at the Bemaks Arena (71:64).
Alongside last year’s finalists, Celje and Buducnost, two Bulgarian teams—Beroe and Montana—have also secured spots in the final tournament.
This crucial match in Celje could very well determine who claims the top seed heading into the final four.
Coach Petar Stojanović remarked that the clash between Buducnost and Celje represents the biggest derby in the WABA League.
“We’re fully aware that we’re up against a formidable opponent in Celje, making this match extremely challenging. It demands 40 minutes of tremendous effort, energy, and focus. We managed to beat them in the first encounter, so Celje will be eager to avenge that loss as they aim for the top spot by the end of the regular season,” stated Stojanović.
He is confident that Budućnost will rise to the occasion, emphasizing their commitment to achieving the best result possible.
Promising guard Atina Radević expressed that the matchup won’t be easy, noting that Celje has bolstered its roster further.
“Especially with Nika Barič joining the team, we expect a tough game. However, we will aim to deliver our best performance. Celje is highly experienced, which makes this a significant challenge for us, but we’re eager to prove our capabilities against the reigning champions,” Radević remarked.
The game in Celje is scheduled to begin at 18:00.
