How Many More Scandals Will it Take for Mujović to Recognize Otašević’s Breach of Journalistic Ethics and Standards?

Following a recent incident outside a temple in Podgorica, City RTV director Vladimir Otašević labeled it as terrorism, implicating certain politicians and journalists. Such assertions, made from the leadership position of a public broadcaster, are deemed unacceptable panic-inducing sensationalism and a severe misuse of power, according to Miloš Mašković, president of the European Union Councilors’ Club in the Capital City Assembly.

“There is no evidence that qualifies the incident outside the Temple as a terrorist act, but Otašević disregards the facts. His intention seems less about informing the public and more focused on leveraging the event for a political agenda, portraying political adversaries as security threats, and transforming City Television into a vehicle for fearmongering and manipulative narratives, reminiscent of Dragan J. Vučićević, the owner of Serbian Informer,” Mašković stated on his X network account.

Mašković further noted that Otašević’s changing and ultimately retracted post only underscored the thoughtlessness and irresponsibility of his comments, which lacked any factual foundation.

“This isn’t an isolated instance. I must remind you that on January 15, the city portal circulated false news about a murder in Cetinje, which was promptly denied by the Police Directorate. Therefore, today I ask Mayor Saša Mujović: how many more scandals must occur before he realizes that Vladimir Otašević is acting in direct opposition to journalistic ethics and professional standards?” Mašković added.
