During the session of the Nikšić Municipal Assembly (MA) today, the mandates of the newly elected councilors were confirmed, but the president of the assembly has yet to be elected.

The assembly is deemed constituted only after the election of the president.

The outgoing mayor, Marko Kovačević, proposed a break and subsequently adjourned the session to finalize a coalition agreement with the new government members.

Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) councilor Rajko Perović urged that the break not exceed 24 hours.

He requested clarification regarding who has been overseeing the municipality since May 10, when Kovačević’s term concluded, along with who was responsible for signing documents and making decisions.

In the local elections held in Nikšić on April 13, the coalition For the Future of Nikšić (ZBNK) led by Kovačević garnered 15 seats, the Europe Now Movement (PES) secured five, and the Democrats-Plenum 083 coalition claimed three seats.

These three coalitions/parties will establish the government in the city under Trebjes.

The Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) emerged with the highest number of councilor mandates in Trebjes, achieving a total of 16, while the European Union also gained parliamentary representation with two councilor mandates.

The remaining five parties/lists that contested the elections did not meet the required threshold.

The session was presided over by the eldest councilor, Miodrag-Dragan Nikolić from DPS.

The assembly session is set to continue on Monday, July 2nd.

After the intermission, Marko Kovačević, the leader of the For the Future of Nikšić (ZBNK) coalition, informed reporters that the prospective government constituents have come to an agreement that the Mayor will be elected from his coalition, the Mayor from the Europe Now Movement (PES), and the Vice-President of the Municipality from Democratic Montenegro.
