A significant part of the work took place in northern Portugal, with the upcoming match in Podgorica anticipated merely as a formality in this impressive competition for the Montenegrin women’s handball team.

The “Lionesses” were relentless against their Portuguese opponents in Fafe, executing their strategy with precision, leading to a decisive 12-goal victory (31:19) and effectively paving their way to the World Cup.

“I expect us to perform even better in the second match,” noted Armel Atingre, nonetheless.

Our goalkeeper recorded 10 saves in the initial game, demonstrating excellent form during the first half, while the adversary managed to stay close.

“I believe we did an outstanding job and made a crucial step towards World Cup qualification. We gradually expanded our lead, and a 12-goal margin is a commendable outcome,” Atingre added.

Ivona Pavićević and Tatjana Brnović were instrumental at the start of the second half, and those moments were pivotal in determining the match’s outcome.

“We began with determination, and as the game progressed, we improved our performance, showcasing that we are the superior team. This will undoubtedly have significance for us leading into the rematch in Podgorica,” Ivona emphasized.

Suzana Lazović ensured all players had an opportunity in Fafe.

“I’m pleased that every girl had a chance and proved their worth, and I trust they will receive further opportunities in the future,” stated the Montenegrin left winger.

Ivana Godeč added two goals, always fighting hard…

“We anticipated a challenging match; the first half was quite tough, and we made several technical errors. We performed significantly better in the second half, and a 12-goal scoreline is a realistic reflection of our efforts. I look forward to a full stadium in Podgorica, and I am also pleased that each player made the most of their chance,” the “Lioness” pivot commented.

The rematch, which is likely to be another celebration, is set for Saturday at 18:00 in the “Bemax Arena”.
