The path to the eighth World Cup and the 19th major tournament was secured with yet another victory against Portugal.

Following a 31:19 win in Fafe, the Montenegrin handball team triumphed again in Podgorica with a score of 30:26.

“The players performed excellently. Although we missed Đurđina Jauković, the rest of the team stepped up to offset her absence,” stated coach Suzana Lazović.

In both matches, every athlete included in the roster had the opportunity to play.

“We have qualified for our 19th major tournament. I’m pleased that every girl contributed to this achievement, as they represent the future stars of Montenegrin handball in the upcoming Olympic cycle,” Suzana added.

She emphasized her commitment to expanding the team’s roster.

“I believe that in the future, we will see more debutants. It’s important to have as many young talents as possible in all upcoming events to evaluate their potential,” she remarked.

Discussing the rematch, she said:

“We can celebrate now, but new qualifiers and challenges await us in September. I’m proud of what they accomplished. After a good performance in Portugal, this victory counts. We did allow a significant number of goals, but we will analyze everything more thoroughly—right now, we should enjoy the moment.”

The World Cup is scheduled to take place in Germany and the Netherlands in November and December.

“The World Cup is still a way off. The girls need to wrap up this season before the next one begins, but we can promise to give our all on the field. It might sound cliché, but I know each player will always give their best to showcase why Montenegro is at the forefront,” the Montenegrin coach insisted.

In closing, she shared a message for the supporters.

“I want to express my gratitude to the fans for their unwavering support from the first to the last minute,” concluded Suzana Lazović.
