The Institute of Public Health of Montenegro (IJZCG) has issued a warning regarding elevated nitrite levels in the water supply in Ulcinj. As a precaution, the water is not safe for drinking, culinary uses, or preparing infant formula.
“This situation can arise from fluctuations in the water supply or natural phenomena, and it is not uncommon. Nevertheless, it is crucial for health protection—especially for vulnerable populations like infants—that this water is temporarily deemed unsuitable for consumption. Since nitrites are not eliminated by cooking, activities such as brushing teeth, consuming fruits and vegetables, and bathing small children with this water are also not advised due to the risk of accidental ingestion. Relevant authorities are already on the scene and are implementing all necessary measures to restore water quality as quickly as possible. Citizens will receive timely updates on any changes,” the Institute stated.
