Barcelona has become the first team in Spain’s top league history to have a six-point lead, fall behind by seven points, and still clinch the championship.
Barcelona clinched the title with a win against Espanyol in the 36th round, establishing a seven-point lead over the top team, Real Madrid, with two rounds left.
After the 12th round, Barcelona led with a six-point margin over Real, which took advantage of Barca’s slump to gain a seven-point lead after the 20th round.
“We are delighted. I believe both the management and the fans are pleased with my performance, especially since we have secured three trophies this season – the Spanish Super Cup, the King’s Cup, and now La Liga. The changes I implemented were evident, and the players adapted excellently. We played well, though there is still a tinge of regret regarding our semi-final loss in the Champions League,” stated Hansi Flick, the coach of Barcelona.
