The civic movement “Idemooo!” continues its mission of holding the government accountable, just as it did during the election campaign. With 4.6% of the votes secured and one councilor mandate, we owe it to our supporters to represent them well in the municipal assembly and to strive to ensure that the truth is amplified on all pressing municipal issues, stated the president of this movement, Olivera Doklestić.
Furthermore, she noted that, with the emergence of various complaints regarding the operations and effectiveness of municipal services and the current situation, it will be essential to keep an office open to enhance engagement with citizens.
“We know each other by our deeds,” and with this dedication, the Novska Lista achieved a dominant win across all electoral districts. During the elections held on April 50.3, of the total electorate, 13,25603% participated. In the city of Herceg Novi, the turnout was 48% among 932 voters. At the Savina River: the total turnout was 44% from 1751 voters. The civic movement “Idemooo!” gained significant support in these electoral areas, obtaining 8.3% of voters’ trust. The alarmingly low turnout is concerning.
Turnout along the Riviera was similarly poor. Kamenari recorded only 43%, Đenovići 44%, Kumbor 51%, and just 25% in the Luštica constituency. In Topla, turnout in six districts was 51% of 3929 voters, while districts 4 and 6 recorded just 46 and 47% respectively. If Topla is viewed as a bastion for the Nova List and the Democrats, what does this indicate about the voters’ sentiments? In Igalo, voting occurred in eight districts with turnouts of: 53%, 53%, 50%, 54%, 51%, 55%, 51%, and 49% from 5006 voters, while Meljine saw percentages of 52% and 51% among 931 voters. “These figures signify that something is amiss and that the elections reflect a deep dissatisfaction among citizens, as well as a sentiment that their votes carry little weight in enacting change,” remarked Doklestić.
She emphasized that the Civic Movement “Idemooo!” is fully independent, primarily comprised of lay individuals and politicians well-versed in administrative protocols, hence facing significant organizational challenges.
“Politically, we will endorse any constructive idea, decision, or solution for the city, and we will oppose any actions detrimental to citizens, especially regarding financial policies. This stance means we are not interested in joining any large coalition, as such political alignments benefit the government more than the municipality. We respect diverse opinions and perspectives, as they are foundational to our democracy and parliamentary system.
“An optimal approach for our municipality would involve a balanced relationship between the government and the opposition for each agenda item, rather than one side dominating with a significant majority of councilors, who become mere voting cogs. Such a balanced dynamic in the assembly fosters effective solutions derived from opposing viewpoints, while adhering to principles of free speech, expression, and knowledge, enabling genuine efforts against corruption and for quality,” she stated.
Doklestić mentioned that due to financial constraints, her movement will need to vacate its office at the Post Office in early June but remains hopeful about securing new premises.
“The core focus of the Civic Movement ‘Idemooo!’ will remain on environmental initiatives through the NGO Ecological Society of Boka Kotorska,” Doklestić concluded in her statement.
