Vučić Urges Students to Return to Classrooms, Students Back to School, and Encourages Teachers and Professors to “Earn Their Salaries”

Today, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić urged students to return to their university classes and pupils to their schools, while advising teachers and professors to “earn their salaries instead of waiting for payment for unearned work.”

“I extend this message to professors as well, because miners and all workers must also earn their wages through hard work,” Vučić said while addressing citizens at a rally in Požarevac.

He declared that the “color revolution” in Serbia has been unsuccessful.

Vučić and other officials have continually labeled the mass protests against the demolition of the Novi Sad railway station canopy and the tragic deaths of 15 individuals as attempts at a “colored revolution” aimed at destabilizing the government.

The term “colored revolutions” refers to the protests that successfully ousted authoritarian regimes in former Soviet nations.

During the majority of the rally on February 15, held in celebration of Serbian Statehood Day in Sremska Mitrovica, Vučić discussed his alleged battle against this color revolution, asserting that as long as he is in power, he will not permit “them to dismantle Serbia” and will vigorously defend Serbia, Kosovo and Metohija, as well as Vojvodina, which he emphasized is “part of Serbia.”

At that rally, Vučić reiterated multiple times that the “color revolution has failed” and that Serbia has emerged victorious.

On February 17, he confirmed that footage showing students allegedly rehearsing how to stage a fake car attack was indeed authentic.

Pink Television aired clips of students supposedly training on how to confront drivers, how to fall, and how to document an incident.

Vučić remarked that it was authentic footage from Cetinjska Street in Kragujevac and highlighted that the students should consider whether everyone in Kragujevac was supportive of their actions and that someone wouldn’t capture them on film.

“This serves as strong evidence that this is a color revolution,” stated the Serbian president at that time.

On March 8, Vučić announced that he was working on a book titled “How I Defeated the Color Revolution in Serbia,” aimed for release by Vidovdan on June 28.

“I am currently preparing to write a book about how I overcame the color revolution in Serbia because there will be no revolution here,” he asserted during a rally at the “Jezero” Sports Center in Kikinda, where a prominent banner reading “Vojvodina is Serbia” was displayed.

Students leading protests across Serbia are demanding accountability from authorities regarding the Novi Sad accident and emphasize that they are not seeking a change in government. They are currently blocking more than 60 universities across various cities, with several high schools joining their cause.

The students’ demands have garnered support from their professors, educators, lawyers, actors, farmers, and other community members.

The primary demand from the blockading students is for the complete documentation pertaining to the reconstruction of the Novi Sad Railway Station, to ascertain responsibility for the incident.

They also call for justice against those who attacked students during the following protests in Novi Sad and for the suspension of proceedings against the arrested demonstrators.

The Serbian Progressive Party administration, under President Aleksandar Vučić, claims that the students’ demands have been satisfied, a statement the students contest.

In response, tens of thousands of individuals have taken to the streets, encouraged by the students in the blockade.
