Nebojša Simić, recognized as one of the top goalkeepers in the Bundesliga, has sustained a severe knee ligament injury, according to Bild Zeitung.

During the match against Gummersbach, which Melsungen ended up winning, Simić got injured in the 50th minute when the score was 19:17 in favor of his team.

Bild reports that Simić was already playing with a broken finger on his right hand. In an attempt to defend against Ole Pregler’s counterattack, he injured his left knee.

His teammates, Erik Balensijaga and David Mandić, immediately signaled for assistance. Mandić raised his arms in concern. Simić was carried off the field by Hungarian player Šipoš, and following the match, his teammates helped him to the locker room, as stated by Bild.

Simić is set to undergo an MRI scan on Tuesday, but there are suspicions of a tear in the cruciate ligaments, which would likely end his season with Melsungen and could sideline him until 2025.

Melsungen coach Roberto Parondo expressed disappointment despite the victory.

“This win is for Sim,” he said succinctly.

If the suspected diagnosis is confirmed on Tuesday, the already depleted second-place team will face another challenge—goalkeeping coach Karsten Lichtlejnn, a former world champion and European champion, may have to step in as the second goalkeeper, as he did in the German Cup final when Melsungen lost to Kiel.
