Following their victory against Cedevita-Olimpija on Saturday in the AdmiralBet ABA League, the Buducnost Voli basketball team is also on their way to the Eurocup playoffs.
The team has traveled to Ankara for a match against Turk Telekom tomorrow (17:30). This marks their third away game in Turkey this season, having previously faced Besiktas and Bahcesehir in Istanbul during the group stage, plus this playoff matchup in Ankara.
“We had a strong start after the break. Our energy and approach were commendable against Cedevita-Olimpija, and we need to maintain that momentum. It’s crucial,” said Žakelj, reflecting on the regional competition before turning to the challenge posed by Turk Telekom.
The Turkish side finished Group B in third place with a record of 10-8, just one win behind Hapoel Jerusalem, who secured a direct spot in the quarterfinals.
“Turk Telekom boasts a talented roster with great individuals, deserving of their third-place finish in the group. They are the favorites, but they face pressure as well. We know our task—who to focus on and how to prepare,” emphasized Žakelj.
As the match approaches, the Montenegrin champion’s coach conveyed a clear message:
“It’s about the team, not just individuals. That’s how we’ll approach our defense, while executing our game plan on offense.”
Former Buducnost player Joan Makundu is now part of Turk Telekom.
“We are familiar with Turk Telekom’s players; Makundu played with us last season. They are a strong athletic team with good depth, but they also have weaknesses. We will aim to exploit those and catch them off guard,” stated Žakelj.
