Nebojša Simić, a player for the Montenegrin handball national team, has confirmed that he has sustained injuries to his anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus in his knee, which will require a lengthy recovery period.

In a statement shared on social media, Simić revealed that he is preparing for a prolonged break and is ready for a new challenge ahead.

“I’ve torn my anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus in my knee, and I am facing a very long recovery. I intend to work diligently and intelligently to return to the field as soon as I can and stronger than before. Neither pain nor a challenging rehabilitation process will deter me from this goal. It’s time for a new battle. I appreciate everyone for the countless messages and support—I feel uplifted during this tough time thanks to your care,” Simić expressed in an Instagram post.

Along with his message, Simić shared a photo showcasing himself with a fractured finger.

“This photo truly represents me. When I broke my finger, I chose to bandage it and keep playing, despite the discomfort. I was taught to avoid the easy way out and to fight through any obstacles. I was eager to lead Melsungen to its first title and help my country qualify for the European Championship. I haven’t discussed these matters much, but I think it’s essential to share them now, as I prepare for the most significant and challenging period of my career. It’s crucial to me that my supporters envision me in this light,” Simić added.

Additionally, fellow national team goalkeeper Nikola Matović has also faced a torn anterior cruciate ligament and will be sidelined for a while.
