Allied Unity Affirmed: Ongoing Support for Ukraine

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimović is attending the NATO Summit, which is being held on 24 – 25 June in The Hague, as part of a delegation headed by President Jakov Milatović.

On the first day of the Summit, a meeting in the NATO-Ukraine Council format took place for the foreign ministers of member states, with participation from the Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas.

Allies reiterated their strong commitment to ongoing support for Ukraine in its struggle against Russian aggression and highlighted that investing in Ukraine’s defense is vital for the security of all of Europe.

The crucial synergy between NATO and the European Union was notably underscored, focusing on various support mechanisms for Ukraine, including those related to the defense industry.

Allies also expressed robust backing for the United States’ diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving a ceasefire that paves the way for a lasting and just peace in Ukraine. The head of Montenegrin diplomacy emphasized that Montenegro, as a dedicated NATO member, will persist in its support for Ukraine, both bilaterally and through NATO cooperation and assistance frameworks, underscoring that support for Ukraine’s defense and its territorial integrity remains a top priority for the Alliance.

While in The Hague, FM Ibrahimović engaged with his counterparts about the importance of enhancing stability and security in the Western Balkans and collective action to ensure safety and security.

The NATO meeting of heads of state and government in The Hague is the first convened by Secretary General Mark Rutte. Key agenda items for the two-day discussions include bolstering NATO’s deterrence and defense capabilities, increasing defense spending, advancing the defense industry, and continuing support for Ukraine.
