The lists being left by Miloš Čelanović, the Secretary General of the Social Democrats (SD), are not electoral in nature; rather, they consist of individuals currently facing accusations, suspicions, or those already convicted of severe crimes, as stated by Democratic Montenegro today.
This reaction comes in light of Čelanović’s remarks, which included the suggestion that “it would be best for the Democrats to assemble a list of their members, relatives, neighbors, godparents, and those aspiring to hold official positions so that we can adjust the law accordingly and pass it unanimously in parliament.”
“Mr. Čelanović, if you wish to discuss lists, at the very least, you should refrain from bringing up a topic that you are well-known for in both the legal and political annals of Montenegro. The lists you and your party are creating are not electoral lists, but rather lists of individuals currently accused, suspected, or already convicted of serious crimes,” the DCG statement remarked.
The party further noted that it would be beneficial for Čelanović to recall that their president, Ivan Brajović, once nominated Veselin Veljović for the Director of the Police Administration.
“He also put forth Slavko Stojanović, who confessed to smuggling under duress. Moreover, Zoran Lazović secured his high-ranking role in the security sector, leading the Sector for Combating Organized Crime, precisely when your party’s president was serving as Minister of Internal Affairs,” highlighted the Democrats’ statement.
Additionally, the party pointed out an intriguing invoice from the “Stara kuća” restaurant, totaling 3009 euros of budget funds.
“Concerning Šavnik, let us reiterate: the status quo is intolerable. Each citizen’s right to vote is sacred, yet it must be legitimate and not merely an illusion. The Democrats will revive the electoral processes via legislation, as the residents of Šavnik should not be captives of the former regime’s manipulations,” declared the Democrats’ statement.
The party reminded everyone that “in a municipality with around 1,600 voters, 371 individuals from other municipalities were registered—237 of whom returned to their original addresses immediately after election day.”
“This is no coincidence. This is a scheme. It is this very scheme that we will dismantle, through lawful and decisive measures,” the Democrats emphasized in their statement.
