Nikšić resident Danijel Banićević, along with Serbian nationals Miljan Jovanović, Aleksandar Stefanović, and Dušan Trkulja, was apprehended on suspicion of plotting the murder of Kotor resident MR, according to “Vijesti.”
The police believe Banićević is the leader of this crime group.
Sources from “Vijesti” revealed that they intended to eliminate an entrepreneur from Kotor, whose identity is known to the editorial team.
“Officers from the Regional Security Center ‘South’ – Kotor Security Department, identified four individuals who formed a criminal group aimed at committing a serious crime. They successfully located and arrested three Serbian citizens, MJ, AS, and DT, suspected of entering Montenegro to commit a crime against MR’s life or well-being. This leads to the identification and detention of a fourth person, DB, a Montenegrin citizen, suspected of planning and organizing this serious crime,” the Police Directorate stated.
The Kotor resident, it was explained, had alerted the police regarding his “suspicion of an unfamiliar vehicle frequently appearing near his neighborhood.”
“Kotor Security Department officials undertook extensive and immediate operational measures to avert the planned crime. They swiftly identified citizens MJ (21), AS (22), and DT (20) from Belgrade. Shortly thereafter, they located these individuals, their apartment, and the vehicle suspected of being used for the crime. A subsequent search uncovered several items, including a wooden bat, a hammer, three plastic masks, mobile phones, and clothing suspected to be intended for criminal activity and used to surveil the victim’s residence,” the announcement details.
The three detained Belgraders entered Montenegro at the start of May and rented an apartment in Budva.
“Records indicate that MJ, AS, and DT crossed into Montenegro at the Dobrakovo border checkpoint in early May 2025, after which they secured an apartment in Budva. From that location, they repeatedly traveled near the victim’s residence, where, following a previous agreement, they observed the target and executed specific preparatory actions indicating a well-planned criminal offense. Based on this evidence, and due to suspicions of their involvement in a criminal association under Article 401, paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code concerning an individual, MJ, AS, and DT were detained,” the police reported.
Following a hearing at the prosecutor’s office, detention was ordered for these suspects.
“Forensic evaluations ascertained that these individuals have prior records for multiple property crimes, illegal possession of weapons, public disturbances, and assaults on officials,” the police added.
Banićević faces charges related to criminal association.
“As the investigation progressed, DB (41) from Nikšić was identified and detained. He is accused of forming and organizing this criminal group, which included DT, MJ, and AS, maintaining constant contact with them, coordinating the crime’s execution, facilitating their travel to Montenegro, and directing them on the targets and logistics for this offense. A criminal report against DB has been submitted to the Kotor Prosecutor’s Office for criminal association under Article 401, paragraph 2 of the Criminal Code,” authorities confirmed.
Police officials asserted that they “will continue their proactive, preventive, and reactive efforts to dismantle criminal groups, safeguard the community, and prevent serious offenses, all while striving to maintain a secure environment for citizens.”
Moreover, they emphasized their dedication to improving security, boosting public confidence in law enforcement, and upholding the rule of law at all levels, having previously neutralized five serious criminal attempts through distinct operations.
