Energy policy has shifted from a technical consideration to a core state issue, stated Minister of Energy and Mining Admir Šahmanović during a symposium on energy transition held in Budva.

“In an era where energy independence symbolizes a new geopolitical power, it falls on all of us to clearly chart our course and to pursue it steadfastly,” remarked Šahmanović at the commencement of EPCG NET, organized by Elektroprivreda (EPCG).

During the event, he expressed gratitude to EPCG for its pivotal role in advancing the shift towards sustainable and green energy solutions.

“For Montenegro, as a candidate for EU membership and an export-driven economy, the energy transition transcends mere ecological concerns; it is also vital for competitiveness and access to the European market. Adhering to green standards is no longer optional, it’s a necessity,” Šahmanović emphasized.

He noted that energy policy has evolved into a fundamental issue, serving as the backbone of a modern state.

“A successful and equitable transition to renewable energy illustrates not only the maturity of our institutional framework but also the political commitment to position Montenegro as a stable, independent, and climate-conscious nation. The burden we accept today as the generation steering this transformation is to guarantee long-term stability – be it economic, energy, or social. Today, we are not just discussing projects; we are sharing a vision. We are not merely considering megawatts; we are addressing issues of sovereignty,” Šahmanović added.

The Acting Director General for Oil and Gas, Zorana Sekulić, represented the Ministry of Energy and Mining on a panel focused on women in business and energy, while the Acting Director General for Energy Efficiency, Božidar Pavlović, addressed the panel “Connecting Consumers and Producers to the Distribution System: Challenges and Solutions”.

EPCG NET 2025 has gathered over 300 participants from Montenegro, the region, and Europe, with this year’s emphasis on the role of renewable resources, the digitalization of the power system, and the challenges surrounding the green transition.
