The Montenegrin handball team ensured there were no surprises in Finland by defeating the home team 33:28, securing their spot in the European Championship with one qualification round remaining.
Coach Didije Dinar celebrated the achievement with the “Lions,” expressing satisfaction with their performance in Vantaa.
“We maintained our focus throughout the match. I believe we prepared effectively and deserved this victory. It’s challenging to stay at a high level after leading by seven at halftime, but we handled our opponent well in the last 15 minutes,” Dinar remarked.
This Sunday, Montenegro will face Slovakia in Bar.
“We will celebrate our qualification, but there’s still one match to play, and we aim to complete the task,” stated the legendary Frenchman.
Branko Vujović led our team in scoring with seven goals.
“I think we are where we deserve to be. We started strong, allowing only 12 goals in the first half and leading by eight at that point. Although things shifted later, it’s tough to maintain the intensity against a team under no pressure,” commented one of the top right-backs globally.
Goalkeeper Haris Suljević made 14 saves, proving Montenegro can rely on him in the absence of Nebojša Simić and Nikola Matović due to injuries.
“We should have celebrated in a more convincing manner. Our goal was to resolve everything in Finland and enjoy the last match in front of our fans. As for my performance, I wish Simić and Matović a swift recovery, and I appreciate the team’s support throughout. My efforts reflected our collective hard work. I believe there’s still significant potential for improvement as we progress,” Suljević concluded.
