Reflections on My Career’s End: What I’ll Remember
Nikola Jokić, as the adage states, “changed the game” in the NBA, once again proving he is a worthy contender for the title of the greatest player in the history of this premier basketball league.
In Denver’s thrilling 149:141 overtime victory against Phoenix, the Serbian center achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first player ever to score over 30 points while recording more than 20 rebounds and assists in a single game.
In an astonishing performance that captivated everyone, Jokić tallied 31 points, 22 assists, and 21 rebounds. He later remarked in his signature style:
“I’ll probably reflect on all of this once I retire. It will be enjoyable to look back on these moments while sitting on the couch one day. I played exceptionally well,” Jokić said.
Previously, only Wilt Chamberlain and Jokić’s teammate, Russell Westbrook, had accomplished 20+-20+20 games.
This performance marked Jokić’s 29th triple-double of the season, matching both his personal and franchise records, and it was his 159th career triple-double in regular season play…
Denver held the lead for much of the game against the Suns until Kevin Durant made a three-pointer at the buzzer, sending the game into overtime.
In the added five minutes, Jokić took charge, leaving no doubt about the outcome.
“We’re not playing at our best and face challenges like everyone else, but we’re still managing to win, and that’s what matters most. I have faith in this team; we always find a way to overcome,” stated Jokić.
How do his teammates perceive Jokić?
“It’s straightforward—you won’t see another player like him. He consistently plays the right way and makes the correct decisions on the court,” remarked Christian Braun.
The Nuggets currently rank third in the Western Conference with a record of 41 wins and 22 losses over 63 games.
The LA Lakers have played 61 games and sit in second place with a record of 40-21, while Oklahoma leads the pack with an impressive 50 victories in 63 matches.
