In the opening round of the Eurocup group stage, the Primorje water polo team secured a narrow 9:8 victory over Trieste at the “Zoran-Džimi Gopčević” swimming pool, marking an important first step towards the next round.

This evening, facing the same opponent (20:00), the Kotor players have the opportunity to make a crucial advance towards the knockout phase.

Zoran Maslovar’s squad is in excellent form, as shown two weeks ago when they triumphed over Ortiđa 14:9. A fresh three points in Italy would bring them closer to their goal.

“I believe we are at our peak, both as a team and individually, and we have reason to be optimistic for this away match. Trieste will play much more aggressively at home, and this is their last chance to earn points and pursue a spot in the next round, so I anticipate a challenging game,” remarked Marko Gopčević.

Trieste currently holds only a single point, having lost all three matches by a narrow margin—against Kotor, at home to Ortiđa 12:11, and in Greece to Panionios 26:25 after 11 penalty shootouts, despite having a match point in the fifth round.

Clearly, the 2009 European champions face a formidable challenge ahead.

“If we remain united and play as we have been, focusing on our defense at a high level, I believe we can secure a victory that would be very significant for us,” Gopčević added.
