The Mayor of Podgorica, Saša Mujović, has officially announced the commencement of the primary pipeline construction in the Gornja Lješanska nahija, as stated by the Capital City of Podgorica today.
The announcement highlights that this “project marks the end of a prolonged wait for a fundamental human right: access to drinking water.”
“This initiative addresses a long-standing grievance of Lješanska nahija residents, who have awaited basic communal infrastructure for decades. Today’s visit affirms that we honor our commitments. We pledge to initiate the construction of the primary water supply system along the Staniseljići-Kazića Glavica route starting May 26th. This project has lingered in discussions for over 10 years,” Mujović remarked.
He acknowledged the justified displeasure of the local populace and asserted that the new administration is rectifying this long-standing issue.
“Within the next six months, we aim to be actively working on this essential phase of the primary pipeline project. Subsequently, we will design the secondary water supply network to ensure water access for every household in the upper Lješanska nahija,” Mujović stated.
He pointed out that this segment of the primary pipeline is a crucial part of the broader pipeline that extends from the Kaluđerovo Oko spring to the Gradac reservoir.
“With the implementation of this project, we make significant strides toward finally providing the long-awaited water supply for the entire Lješanska nahija. From here, we convey a strong message that the Capital City is committed to addressing the needs of suburban areas that have been overlooked for far too long,” Mujović emphasized.
The director of the municipal company Vodovod i kanalizacija doo, Aleksandar Nišavić, noted that this phase of the project will secure water supply for around 200 households, with plans for connection to the Kaluđerovo Oko water source in subsequent phases to improve conditions in Donja Lješanska nahija, where approximately 520 households reside.
“By finalizing the primary pipeline, we will be able to design and initiate projects related to the secondary network, which will be prioritized in the upcoming months. A contract has already been secured with the contractor Kažeks for this section, with an anticipated completion timeline of 90 days. As a result, we expect this segment of the network to be operational by early September,” Nišavić added.
The Capital City’s statement indicated that local community representatives and residents expressed “great satisfaction” at the prospect of finally receiving a stable water supply after years of anticipation.
“They expressed gratitude to the Capital City, led by Mayor Mujović and his deputies, as well as the Waterworks representatives, for acknowledging and addressing their most pressing issue. The locals are hopeful that this development will bring life to the area and attract younger generations who have been leaving due to inadequate living conditions,” the statement disclosed.
The Capital City emphasized that, once these efforts are completed, hundreds of households “will enjoy a regular and reliable water supply for the first time, significantly enhancing their quality of life. The initiatives that commenced today also serve as a testament to the city administration’s dedication to resolving issues that have long been neglected.”
