“Make Security Committee Session Open to the Public and Allow Our Representative to Participate”
The Network for the Affirmation of the Non-Governmental Sector (MANS) has called for a portion of the discussion at the upcoming Committee on Security and Defense session, scheduled for Friday, May 16, to be made public. This segment pertains to the procedures for assessing the (non)existence of security obstacles and assigning disciplinary accountability within the security sector. MANS has also requested that a representative be permitted to attend.
“We believe that making this part of the session open to the public would enhance citizens’ trust in institutions, which should be a primary objective of the work conducted by the Parliament of Montenegro.”
“Additionally, we ask that MANS representatives be allowed to participate in this discussion so that, as a civil society organization, we can foster the exchange of information and advocate for policy improvements in this domain,” MANS’s initiative to the committee states.
Through this initiative, MANS is not seeking access to classified information but is rather looking for involvement in discussions focused on the normative framework for security checks, the functions of relevant commissions, institutional vulnerabilities, and necessary reforms, the non-governmental organization clarified.
“We believe that the engagement of the civil sector would facilitate a better understanding of the institutional context, bolster public trust, and reinforce the Parliament’s supervisory role over security structures.”
“Given our extensive experience and tangible contributions in this field, we find it reasonable to open part of the discussion under agenda item 3 to the public and allow MANS representatives to attend. We anticipate that the Board will address this initiative promptly and inform us of its decision,” the initiative concludes.
