During the culmination of the Mostar carnival, a symbolic effigy of Elon Musk was set ablaze, as the local “High Court” deemed him the main scapegoat for the past year’s tribulations, according to N1.
This choice reflects not just on Musk himself but serves as a critique of those in power who lack empathy for the struggles faced by ordinary citizens.
The event took place at “Buka i Mačkara” square in the Centar 2 neighborhood of Mostar.
Carnival organizers emphasized that they did not burn an actual person, but rather a symbol of the irresponsible actions that have characterized the past year.
This year’s choice of Elon Musk as the primary “culprit” indicates that even the most influential individuals are not immune to public backlash in the struggle against injustice.
“While your rocket soars across the globe, it feels as if you are alone on stage, planning for Mars. Don’t expect our support,” the carnival court expressed in accusatory verses, coinciding with the symbolic burning of Elon Musk, reports N1.
The Mostar Carnival, renowned for its satire, has previously “burned” numerous symbols of political and social controversies, ranging from contentious figures to significant international policies.
In years gone by, the carnival court’s “victims” have included former high international representatives in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Paddy Ashdown and Valentin Inzko, as well as BiH’s ambassador to the Czech Republic and author Martina Mlinarević, the Dayton Peace Agreement, and pop singer Jelena Karleuša.
