Montenegrin Volleyball Team Achieves Golden League Survival
Following six matches and an impressive debut, the women’s volleyball team has clinched a spot in the upcoming edition of the CEV Golden European League.
In their final match of the third tournament in Kaposvar, the Montenegrin women’s volleyball team lost to Portugal with a score of 3:1 (23:25, 25:18, 25:21, 25:22). However, due to Azerbaijan’s 3:0 defeat against Romania, they managed to secure their position.
Coach Jovo Caković’s squad started the match in Kapošvar with an incredible series of seven consecutive points, establishing a significant lead of 13:4, although the first set concluded with uncertainty.
Portugal managed to level the score, the last tie being at 22:22, but Caković’s young team remained resolute against their rivals’ pressure. Montenegro seized the opportunity at the second set point to take the lead at 25:23.
The remaining three sets were won by the Portuguese, who celebrated their second victory after 108 minutes of play.
Nikoleta Perović showcased an exceptional offensive display, scoring 20 points, which unfortunately was only enough for Montenegro to secure one set. She was the standout player of the match.
Saška Đurović also made her mark with eight points, while one of the youngest players, Darja Popović, contributed six points.
For Portugal, four players achieved double-digit scores, with Margarida Maia leading the pack with 16 points.
The young Montenegrin team concluded their debut performance with one victory, which they secured at the tournament in Bratislava against Azerbaijan, winning 3:1.
A notable number of debutants had the opportunity to compete against high-quality opponents, gaining valuable experience for future challenges. Their next assignment is in August, where they will compete in crucial matches for a historic spot in the European Championship against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Latvia.
