The impressive winning streak, which began on November 17th following a loss to Spartak in Podgorica and included 12 consecutive victories, came to an end in Novi Beograd. This defeat was particularly surprising as Budućnost Volija had previously triumphed over this team in their last eight encounters.
The “blue and white” squad failed to demonstrate the same brilliance they had shown earlier in the season against Mega, resulting in a 93:79 loss, thereby allowing Partizan to reclaim their lead at the top of the AdmiralBet ABA League, following their victory over FMP on Monday.
“The home team outperformed us for the entire match; they deserved their victory, and I extend my congratulations to them on their success,” remarked Andrej Žakelj, coach of Buducnost.
Throughout the match, his team trailed their opponents, and even when they managed to close the gap, Mega consistently responded effectively.
“It was evident during the game; they approached it with five times more energy than we did, which is crucial. We lacked focus and energy, and that’s simply unacceptable,” Žakelj stated during the press conference.
Buducnost was without Jogi Ferel, who had traveled to the United States for personal reasons, as well as the injured Andrija Slavković. Žakelj also had some words for certain players who participated in the match at the “Ranko Žeravica” hall.
“Some players have started straying from our agreed-upon approach, and we can only succeed as a cohesive unit. We will address this internally; there’s still plenty of season ahead, and we need to focus on training and analysis,” concluded the Slovenian coach.
