Citizens can rejoice, as the green space and serene oasis on Beogradska Street will be maintained, a crucial point highlighted today by Podgorica’s Mayor, Saša Mujović.
“I am pleased with the outcome of my meeting with representatives from the Eurozox company. They exhibited a commendable level of understanding, which I anticipated. Our goal has been reached, as there will be no construction. However, it’s premature to discuss alternative locations or compensation for Eurozox; this matter now lies between the Capital City and Eurozox, and I am confident that we will find a compromise solution soon,” Mujović shared on Instagram.
The Eurozox company has agreed to halt plans for a residential building on Beogradska Street in Podgorica, behind the Ziya Hotel, where a protected 70-year-old tree was cut down last weekend.
This was confirmed to “Vijesti” earlier today by the company’s commercial director, Željko Šljivančanin, following his discussion with Mujović.
He stated that while everything has been “verbally agreed upon for now,” they are still “looking for an alternative solution.”
According to him, the “disputed” site will not be destroyed, but a new location will need to be identified for the residential construction.
Residents of Beogradska Street have remained vigilant for two nights after the tree was removed, expressing their concerns for their environmental surroundings. On May 19, citizens rallied after noticing individuals trespassing in the green area owned by Eurozox two weeks prior.
