Recently, personnel from the Forest and Hunting Management Administration have made significant progress in addressing illegal forestry operations and the unauthorized use of forest resources in Nikšić and Šavnik.
According to a statement from the Administration, DOO “Novi Bauxiti” unlawfully harvested approximately 20 cubic meters of coniferous trees without obtaining the necessary approval.
“A criminal report has been filed against this entity, and the case has been referred to the Basic State Prosecutor’s Office for further proceedings. Simultaneously, during inspections of freight trucks on various routes, officials from the Directorate for Forest Management and Hunting Areas, with assistance from the Nikšić Forestry Directorate, intercepted two trucks transporting wood assortments that lacked the required documentation. Consequently, with the Directorate’s support, the vehicles and their cargo were temporarily confiscated until the legitimacy of the transported wood could be thoroughly verified,” the statement elaborates.
Meanwhile, agents from the Šavnik Regional Unit uncovered the illegal harvesting of 35 beech trees from the Bijela-Vojnik Management Unit state forest.
“This incident has been reported to the appropriate authorities, and a criminal complaint has been lodged, with the hope that those responsible for this unlawful logging will be prosecuted swiftly,” the statement from the Directorate for Forest Management and Hunting Areas of Montenegro indicates.
