In the past four days, the “Mediterranean Open Grand Prix” for jiu-jitsu took place in Rome, where the Montenegrin national team excelled, securing a remarkable third place out of 18 participating countries in the overall rankings.

The national team proudly claimed a total of 10 gold medals, with athletes from the Stara Varoš-Podgorica club making an impressive contribution by winning six gold, two silver, and one bronze medal.

“This competition, which played a crucial role in accumulating points for the world rankings, was categorized as a grand prix event for seniors, juniors under 21, and cadets under 18. Meanwhile, it was designated as an open event for competitors under 16,” the Stara Varoš-Podgorica club commented.

The coach of Stara Varoš and the Montenegrin national team, Mladen Jokmanović, traveled to Rome with nine competitors, all of whom returned with medals, and eight of them reached the final rounds.

Gold medalists include: Jelena Jovanović in “Jiu jitsu ne waza adult -94kg”; Branka Mujovic in Jiu jitsu ne waza +70 adult; and an U21 competitor in jiu jitsu ne waza.

He expressed gratitude towards the competitors for their commitment and exemplary conduct, the families for their sacrifices, and all those who contributed to the success of this challenging venture.

“Six of our competitors ensured that our anthem echoed in Rome, a priceless achievement. I’m pleased that we didn’t let anyone down, and I believe our best performances are yet to come,” concluded Jokmanović.
