As per the latest announcement from the Electric Power Company of Montenegro (EPCG), all documentation concerning the Komarnica hydroelectric power plant (HPP) in one of Europe’s last unspoiled canyons has been withdrawn — it will not be constructed, civic activist Aleksandar Dragićević reported today.
“Our struggle against the establishment of a hydroelectric power plant in this vital reservoir of biodiversity, our natural treasure, has endured for six long years. An amazing community rallied to challenge the proposed study and to raise awareness about the significance of this beautiful natural gem. We must remain vigilant because this government intends to sign an Energy Agreement with the UAE (United Arab Emirates) and other nations, potentially sidelining domestic legislation and risking our natural heritage in favor of foreign interests and private enterprises. Let the waters flow freely,” Dragićević expressed on Facebook.
