Citizens Illuminate Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Tribute to Victims

A demonstration by residents from 10 city municipalities is taking place outside the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade.

At this moment, various groups arriving from different parts of the city are converging.

The event, titled “Let’s Gather in Front of the Prosecutor’s Office,” aims to show solidarity with students and educational professionals facing blockades in Serbia.

Those in attendance observed 15 minutes of silence to honor the victims of the Novi Sad Railway Station canopy collapse.

Following the moment of silence, the participants made a significant noise.

Students have been protesting nationwide for over three months, calling for both criminal and political accountability for the deaths of 15 individuals, alongside injuries to two others, due to the canopy collapse of the Novi Sad Railway Station on November 1.

Currently, more than 60 faculties across Serbia are being blocked.

Their demands include the prosecution of those who assaulted students and professors during protests, the release of all documents related to the reconstruction of the Novi Sad Railway Station, the cessation of legal actions against arrested demonstrators, and a 20% increase in funding for faculties.

Some educators have been demonstrating since the beginning of the academic year, seeking improved salaries and working conditions. Their protests and strikes have intensified in response to the ongoing student protests that have now lasted nearly three months.
