Jadran Clinches Trophy with Dominant Defense in the Cup

The Montenegrin Cup winner’s trophy remains with the Jadran water polo team, who defended it decisively in the final match against their main rivals, Primorje, winning 15:10.

Anticipation was high for an exciting match, with expectations of a stronger performance from Primorac. However, throughout much of the encounter at the SC “Morača” pool, the Novljans showcased their ability to maintain their lead, culminating in a surprising heavy defeat of the Kotorans.

Jadran started the game strongly, quickly establishing a 4:1 advantage. In the final moments of the first quarter, Čaraj was penalized for “brutality” following a foul by Vukasović, providing Primorac a chance to respond.

Mršić managed to narrow the score to 4:3 from the box, but Primorac failed to capitalize on the four minutes when they had a player advantage.

Petar Radanović’s team took full advantage, maintaining their lead even after Brguljan equalized at 5:5.

The third quarter proved crucial for the team from Škver as they built a four-goal lead, and belief waned among the Primorje players for a comeback…

“This season, our atmosphere has been excellent, and we’ve been elevating our game recently. In the final, we showcased our best, but I’m confident more strong performances are ahead, starting with our match against Red Star in the Champions League,” commented Jadran coach Petar Radanović.

Thus, the trophy stays put with Jadran, while Primorac hopes for redemption in the Montenegrin championship. A potential knockout stage clash in the Eurocup against their rivals from Boka Bay is also on the horizon, provided Kotorans advance.

“We were outperformed. Our start was sluggish, and we needed to pick up the pace. We didn’t adhere to our agreed strategies. Jadran rightfully won, and we weren’t mentally prepared for this final,” remarked Primorje’s coach, Zoran Maslovar.

Danilo Radović led Jadran with four goals, while Vasilije Radović contributed three; Nagaev and Vukićević both scored two. Primorac’s top scorers were Mršić and Brguljan, each netting three goals.

“We had expectations but were aware of Jadran’s caliber—a team that competes at the Champions League level. Congratulations to Novljan; they deserved the win. Now, we’re shifting our focus to the crucial match against Ortiđa in the Eurocup,” stated Primorje captain Marko Gopčević.
