Liverpool clinched their 20th title in English football last weekend and will be presented with their first accolades in London this Sunday at Stamford Bridge.
“We will certainly greet Liverpool with a guard of honour; it’s a tradition they fully deserve. However, I doubt it will lead to them being overconfident or playing less fiercely. My players are very much aware of wanting to earn similar respect one day,” stated Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca.
Chelsea currently sits in fifth position, the last spot for Champions League qualification, and will need to fight hard to maintain it, being just behind Nottingham Forest on points but with an inferior goal difference.
“There is a distinct quality gap between Liverpool and Chelsea, and that is evident. Nevertheless, I believe my team is progressing in the right direction, and the gap will increasingly narrow,” Maresca concluded.
