The infanticide case from February, involving a twenty-eight-year-old woman identified as I.Š., remains under investigation, as confirmed by the Basic State Prosecutor’s Office (ODT) to Vijesti.

“We would like to inform you that this case is currently being investigated. The acting prosecutor is undertaking all necessary measures and actions established by law to uncover the key facts. Expert evaluations are in progress,” the institution detailed in its statements.

On February 9, a worker from “Čistoća” found a deceased baby in a garbage bin in the Blok 9 area of Podgorica.

At that time, the Higher State Prosecutor’s Office in Podgorica announced that a series of measures and actions had been implemented in collaboration with the Police Directorate (PD) to ascertain all circumstances surrounding the event.

“The prosecutorial and police efforts carried out led to the identification of the newborn’s mother, prompting the case to be transferred to the Basic State Prosecutor’s Office in Podgorica, as suspicions arose regarding a criminal offense within their jurisdiction,” stated the VDP.

Following the incident, the Police Department confiscated numerous video surveillance recordings, gathered information from many citizens, conducted extensive inquiries, and checked operational data, which ultimately helped them locate the apartment occupied by I.Š.

According to the UP, they subsequently searched the apartment where she resided and found items directly connected to the clues in the investigation.

She was interrogated by the acting prosecutor at the ODT in February but was not detained at that time, with the prosecutor’s office indicating that standard proceedings would follow.

At the time, she was receiving treatment at the Clinical Center of Montenegro (KCCG), and the prosecutor determined that I.Š. would be allowed to defend herself from outside of custody.
