Last night, Serbian Culture Minister Nikola Selaković was physically assaulted in Belgrade, according to reports from Radio Television of Serbia (RTS).

Some reports suggest multiple attackers were involved.

Selaković stated in an interview with RTS today that he is doing well.

“An unidentified individual struck me from behind while I was on my way to visit my parents around 10 PM,” Selaković recounted.

He mentioned that the assailant shouted curses and threatened, saying he would “impale us,” referring to members of the SNS (Serbian Progressive Party).

Selaković described how the attacker approached from behind.

“When I turned to speak with him, he punched me and fled. He hit me in the head, near the left side of my nose,” Selaković explained, noting that he suffered a cut near his left temple and that his glasses were damaged on impact.

After consulting a doctor, he documented his injuries and reported the incident to the authorities.

“High tension among blockaders”

He emphasized the significant tension within what he termed the group of blockaders.

“This tension arises from various factors. They have failed to accomplish their malicious goals. They are anxious because the anti-corruption efforts are progressing as they should, without regard for political ties or friendships… This anxiety is evident in their hostile media. They have resorted to targeting women, including female MPs, elderly women, and even pregnant women,” Selaković remarked.

He added that a hostile atmosphere has emerged, pointing out that some media are spreading hatred, including a report last night alleging he had a confrontation over a parking space in Vračar, despite him lacking a driver’s license.

The attack on Selaković has been condemned by Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, outgoing Prime Minister Miloš Vučević, and Justice Minister Maja Popović.
