“Sharks Clinch Victory Over Australia in Opening Match of Sardinia Cup”
The Montenegrin water polo team kicked off the “Sardinia Cup” tournament in Cagliari with a victory over Australia, finishing the match 8:6.
Australia made a strong start, taking the lead 1:0, aided by Petar Tešanović’s impressive save against a five-point shot from Luka Pavilar.
Although the Australians briefly led 2:1, Stefan Vidović and Vlado Popadić responded by turning the game around to a 3:2 advantage. The halftime score was 3:3, but following a powerful start to the third quarter, Vidović and Popadić each scored, giving the Sharks their first two-goal lead.
Vidović and Jovan Vujović, both in fine form, extended the lead to three goals (8:5) at the beginning of the final period.
Australia missed another chance at a penalty when Lahlan Edwards shot over the goal. Dejan Lazović took over from Tešanović at halftime, and Montenegro maintained their lead without difficulty.
Vladimir Gojković’s team will face France tomorrow at 18 p.m., while the tournament will conclude on Thursday against Italy (19 p.m.).
