Rubio’s Misstep: He Could Be a Deity, Not the U.S. Secretary of State

Republika Srpska (RS) President Milorad Dodik remarked today that the claims made by US Secretary of State Mario Rubio—asserting that RS President’s actions undermine the institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and endanger its security and stability—are inaccurate.

“He (Rubio) is mistaken in this regard. He could be a deity, not merely the US Secretary of State. It would be beneficial for him to familiarize himself with the situation here instead of embracing misleading narratives formed during (former US President Joseph) Biden’s administration,” Dodik expressed during an interview with Radio Television of Republika Srpska (RTRS).

He emphasized that RS will not relinquish its demands, regardless of who opposes them.

“We cannot abandon our objectives and policies, regardless of who stands against us. I urge anyone wishing to hold a position here to listen to the opposing perspective. They should not decide for us; they must engage in dialogue with us,” Dodik stated, as reported by RTRS.

Indicating that statements from the US Secretary of State carry significant weight, Dodik suggested that Rubio’s comments reflect the errors of the Biden administration, noting that (US President Donald) Trump’s team “didn’t penetrate every issue.”

“He made numerous missteps. I understand that the Secretary of State has limited time to delve into specifics. Concerns regarding BiH’s situation are issues we’ve heard repeatedly from the Biden administration,” Dodik remarked.

He recalled Trump’s assertions about abstaining from interference in the internal matters of other nations and stepping back from efforts to build other nations and states.

“This might be a facet of the lobbying we identify as part of the Biden administration’s legacy. When he (Rubio) expresses concern for BiH’s future, we share that concern, particularly because it faces threats from anti-Dayton and anti-international legal actions and he has overlooked the absence of (High Representative Christian) Schmidt’s appointment to the United Nations (UN),” evaluated Dodik.

He concluded by expressing that he believes “Rubio is a friend to all in Bosnia and Herzegovina and has taken a stand against pro-Muslim lobbyists who contributed to this situation.”
