After enduring two painful losses, Vlado Šola has finally achieved a significant victory as the coach of Montenegro.
This win makes it easier for the “lions” to qualify for the World Cup, as they will secure a spot in the 1st hat during the play-off draw.
“Congratulations to my ‘lions’, they played like true champions. We again faced some confusion with the wrong substitutions, but that just reflects the eagerness of everyone on the bench wanting to contribute, leading to a bit of chaos. It’s hard to manage,” stated Šola.
He continued with enthusiasm.
“The players showed tremendous heart and intelligence, to say the least. I’m grateful for everything they accomplished; they earned this, and we’re looking forward to a strong play-off.”
Following the match against Hungary, Šola had momentarily forgotten that he was without two pivots, which led him to ask Branko Vujović for tactical advice to secure a draw. Though criticized for this, he remains unfazed.
“I take all the blame; the players deserve none of it. We demonstrated that we can compete with anyone. The returns of Borozan and Grbović after injury helped, along with the contributions of young talents like Čepić, Dragašević, and Luka Radović. I also want to express gratitude to everyone involved, including those who unfortunately had to sit out. For the future of Montenegrin handball, we need to unite and create a supportive national team culture.”
Šola’s contract has lapsed, yet it appears he is advocating for its renewal.
“Simić and Matović form a fantastic goalkeeper duo, with Simić being internationally recognized. Vuk Lazović is excelling defensively, and Borozan brings invaluable experience back. Regarding the contract extension, that’s up to Mr. Petar Kapisoda. He brought me in, and he can decide my fate. I feel privileged to lead this team and foster teamwork. Borozan’s absence was lengthy, and it was crucial to ensure everything fell into place for cohesion. It’s not a new team, but many roles felt unfamiliar,” Šola concluded with a note of appreciation:
“A big thank you to the fans who filled the venue; they were incredible.”
